HBF Helps Joyce G. Safely Stay in Her West Denver Home

Joyce G. has lived in the same house in west Denver for 20 years and enjoys her neighbors and local hangouts. The past few years have been difficult for the 82-year-old who is adapting to symptoms related to heart failure. Fortunately, Joyce connected with HBF and we were able to complete modifications – including grab bars, door replacements and seamless flooring – that have enabled her to live comfortably in the home she loves. On June 11th, we completed yet another renovation – the installation of a back patio so that Joyce can sit outside and enjoy her back yard.OrePac Logo

The crew that installed Joyce’s patio was led by HBF’s own Mike Sheppard and was comprised of volunteers from OrePac Building Products and Fiberon. Fiberon, which is a leading U.S. manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, railing and cladding
distributed worldwide, was the presenting sponsor for the 12th annual Blitz Build. Each year, employees from the two companies are among the first to sign up for Blitz Build. And this year they took home a “Blitzie” award for the team that was “Smoking’ Hot” as the temperatures soared to around 100 degrees the day of their build.

She was so happy and appreciative when she came outside to see her new patio and thanked all of us over and over,” says Abby Wilson, Administrative Assistant at OrePac Building Products.

The patio was part of HBF’s 12th annual Blitz Build. Blitz Build is a three-day event during which multiple crews of builders, tradespeople and volunteers build ramps and decks for individuals across the Denver area who are living with disabilities. This year, 200 dedicated home builders, vendors and volunteers from 35 companies completed projects for 14 individuals throughout metro Denver.
