Making an Impact for Jeremy L.

Jeremy’s HBF Story

Jeremy L. is a 32-year-old blind man. Jeremy enjoys an independent living situation in a basement apartment, however there was no way to access the outdoors from his apartment. The State was willing to fund a portion of an emergency exit leading from the basement door to the side of the home. The exit was hindered by a very steep rock bed and no landmarks to guide Jeremy to safety.

With the help of Project Captain Chad Jackson and Project Captains from Aspen Falls Custom Design and Landscaping (both Captains new to HBF!), HBF’s project team installed railings and curbs to assist Jeremy in navigating his entrance/exit with increased safety and independence.

“The modifications have really helped me. I can feel the path with my cane. I’m able to establish where I am – and where I am going. I feel more safe and independent.”  -Jeremy

With the project complete and a virtual project wrap up, Jeremy can now focus his energy on launching his new podcast in 2021, and not worrying about his safety in and around his home.

Jeremy’s dad Ira added, “We couldn’t be happier with the whole project. It absolutely exceeded our expectations.”
