September awareness campaigns are a great way for us to share knowledge

HBF Client Lexi M.

HBF is proud to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries (SCI), and Muscular Dystrophy this month. Just as we work each day to elevate lives, we are committed to spreading the word about conditions which affect some of our clients. We find monthly awareness campaigns are a great way for us to share knowledge.

HBF recognizes SCI Awareness Month to celebrate important facts about living with a spinal cord injury and to toast some of our clients. Each spinal cord injury is as unique as our client(s) experiences. And according to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, “more than 17,900 new spinal cord injuries take place every year. An SCI often represents a shocking, overwhelming, isolating, and traumatic event—not only for an individual but also for their family, friends, and community.”

HBF Client Luke B.

We also celebrate Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month and Duchenne Awareness Day (September 7th). Muscular dystrophy is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. It has more than 1,800 mutations that affect nearly 300,000 individuals in the United States. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rapidly progressive form of muscular dystrophy.

Please join us as we raise awareness in September and celebrate clients like Luke, Ethan, Matt and Lexi. At HBF we believe a productive and rewarding life is within reach for our clients and anyone with the courage to make it happen.
