The Culture at Rio Grande Co. Is “To Give Back”

The work we do would not be possible without the continuing contributions of HBF Annual Supporters. For more than seven years, Rio Grande Co. has been an HBF Annual Supporter, making a commitment to help those with disabilities right here in our hometown.

Rio Grande Fuel & Feed Co. was founded in 1893 by Erik Peterson. Today, operating under the ownership of Bruce Peterson, the 4th generation local and family owned business continues to supply quality building materials and exceptional service to the Colorado construction market.

Contributing as an HBF Annual Supporter is just one way they strive to bring positive change to the communities they serve and the people who live there.

I love giving to HBF because they do so much good for the community and is run so well. We know they are making a difference in people’s lives and are thrilled to support their efforts in doing so.” – Bruce Peterson

Rio Grande Co. is no stranger to giving back; they began a proud tradition of community service in 1905. They continue this tradition by contributing as a Diamond Level HBF Annual Supporter. Rio Grande Co. President, Jim Iversen recalls the most memorable project he has been a part of…

Jim was introduced to Isaiah Rhoads, a 12 year-old boy through the Little League Challenger program. To start, two of Rio Grande Co. employees completed HBF’s Train the Trainer program and learned how to build ramps. They put their knowledge into play for Isaiah during the 2019 Blitz Build and completed a ramp for Isaiah then.

After the ramps were complete, Jim’s team worked with GJ Gardner to complete a bathroom remodel. For his entire life, Isaiah has been unable to brush his teeth independently. Now, thanks to HBF and our network, Isaiah can complete daily routine tasks by himself. Jim is proud to be a part of Isaiah’s project and the HBF crew.

Dave Wenman, Rio Grande Co. COO states, “We love that HBF is an industry-focused nonprofit. Participating with HBF allows us at Rio Grande Co. to give back to the community and the industry we’re a part of.”

A partnership with HBF can demonstrate your company’s commitment to the community. Being an Annual Supporter allows your company or organization to use its unique talents and resources to help those living with disabilities right here in your own neighborhoods.
