We Did It – 25 ramps in 3 days!

The HBF recently completed their 9th Annual Blitz Build. During this event, more than 200 volunteers came together to build 25 wheelchair ramps for Denver metro residents in just three days.

This year’s Blitz Build recipients each have a unique situation that led them to need a ramp, including muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, or an accident resulting in injury. What they have in common is the desire to access their own homes safely and independently, so they can also access and thrive in our community. Projects were completed in Arvada, Aurora, Castle Rock, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Thornton and Westminster.

The retail value of the work completed during the Blitz Build is estimated to be close to $90,000. Thanks to all involved the work will be done at no cost to the HBF. The HBF community support comes from the event’s Presenting Sponsor, FirstBank; critical in-kind material donations including decking from MoistureShield distributed by Bluelinx, and treated lumber from Universal Forest Products; as well as many additional cash and in-kind sponsors. And, as with all HBF projects, the recipients will receive these modifications at no cost as well.  It is anticipated that, in addition to the retail value of the work done at no cost, this the event will raise additional critical funds to allow the HBF to complete future accessible home modifications for deserving recipients.

“The Blitz Build began as a way to help these individuals thrive in their communities while engaging volunteers and addressing a backlog of projects. It’s amazing to think that in the first year, we completed seven ramps with a handful of volunteers, and at the end of 2019, nearly 175 ramps will have been completed during Blitz Build, with over 200 volunteers supporting the efforts each year..” Beth Forbes, HBF Executive Director
